סיפור ידוע ומלא לקחים הוא סיפור ביקורו של צ'רצ'יל בת"א, בראשית שנות העשרים. מכיוון שלא היו עצים של ממש בעיר הצעירה, ואין מקבלים שר מושבות בלי שדרה נאה, "נטעו" לכבודו אבות העיר שדרת ענפים.
באה רוח ונעקרה השדרה החגיגית. כשעבר צ'רצ'יל במקום, וראה את הענפים העקורים אמר:
"העיקר הם השורשים!"
