"אדם שהיה הולך במדבר והיה רעב, עייף וצמא מצא אילן שפירותיו מתוקין וצלו נאה ואמת המים עוברת תחתיו. אכל מפירותיו ושתה ממימיו וישב בצילו. וכשביקש לילך אמר: אילן, אילן במה אברכך? אם אומר לך שיהיו פירותיך מתוקין- הרי פירותיך מתוקין. שיהיה צילך נאה- הרי צילך נאה, שתהא אמת מים עוברת תחתיך- הרי אמת מים עוברת תחתיך.

אלא יהי רצון, שכל נטיעות שנוטעין ממך יהיו כמותך". (תענית ה')

"A man who was going to the desert and was hungry, tired and thirsty found a sweet tree fruit with a shadow and a river passes beneath him. The man ate fruits and drank water and sat in the shadow.

When he wanted to leave he said to the tree: tree what could I bless you? Your fruits are sweet, you have water and shade

I bless you that all that planting that would grow from you will be like yourself. "
