לאחר הכרזת המדינה הייתה עלייה מאוד גדולה לארץ. בעקבותיה כך, המדינה נקלעה לבעיות כלכליות קשות, ולכן הוחלט על הקמת משטר הצנע. במשטר זה היא שאנשים חיים לפי רמת החיים של הכלל ולא לפי מה שהם באופן אישי יכולים להרשות לעצמם. בהקשר זה נדון השיעור בנושא של סדר עדיפויות נכון, בהתחשבות למען הכלל, ואחראיות אישית, תוך קישור לחיי הילדים.
